CPT Matt Shilk, 95th Civil Support Team
Cal National Guard and their mission in response to 2017 Hurricanes
Matthew T. Shilk enlisted in the Army as an Air Defense Radar Operator, 14J, attending Basic Training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, in June 1997. After serving a four year enlistment in Ft. Stewart, Georgia, 3rd Infantry Division (ID) he moved to Las Vegas, joining the Nevada Army National Guard. In 2004, the 92nd Civil Support Team (CST) was stood up and Specialist Shilk was hired as a Survey Team Member becoming a CBRN Specialist, 74D. In 2009, after attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class as the 92nd CST Reconnaissance NCO, he attended Officer Candidate School and became eligible for commissioning. In 2012, 2LT Shilk was hired by the 95th CST in Hayward, California, as the Survey Team Leader and attended CBRN Basic Officer Leader Course, Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. In 2014, 1LT Shilk applied for and moved to the operations officer for the team. From 2015-2016 he deployed to Kuwait and Iraq as the Brigade CBRN Officer for the 40th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) and returned to the 95th CST thereafter.
CPT Shilk holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management. He has over 20 years of military service, over 17 years active duty.
