Companions and Friends of the San Francisco Commandery of The Naval Order of the United States:
Considering guidelines from our national health authorities and advice I’ve sought from our past Commanders; I’m cancelling our April 6th luncheon at the Italian Athletic Club. I will keep you updated on the status of our next luncheon scheduled for 4 May 2020.
You and your families are on my mind during these eventful times.
Our monthly luncheons go beyond a simple social gathering. Our luncheons are our culture. We renew friendships, celebrate personal and family milestones, and find comfort when we need it from our Companions.
Ours is the rare Commandery that meets monthly. And we meet because you want to meet. You vote with your feet by attending these great events. We’ll meet again as soon as we can.
In the meantime, don’t be a stranger. Send me a note by email if there’s something on your mind.
I’ll close by remembering my first Naval Order luncheon. Marty McNair was our Commander, Admiral Doug Moore was the National Commander, and Kris Carlock was in charge of membership. LtCol John Stevens invited me as his guest. We had a great meal and speaker as we sat shoulder to shoulder at Capp’s Corner sharing the soup and salad “family style”.
It felt like family. I found a club where I felt like I belonged. And that’s how I want you to feel once we resume our luncheon. Our Commandery is the place where you belong, you’re welcomed, and missed when you can’t make it.
With my warm regards,
Gene Redding
Commander, San Francisco Commandery
Naval Order of the United States
