Jan Huly retired from the Marine Corps in 2007 after 37 years of service. As a Lieutenant General, he served as the principal operations officer for the Marine Corps with duties including staff coordination of operational matters, combat readiness and security. He coordinated the development and execution of service plans and policies related to structure, acquisition of systems and equipment, and deployment of Marine Corps forces.
As the Commanding General of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Jan trained and supervised operating managers in all aspects of recruiting, and maintained the most successful recruiting and entry level training program of all military services at the time. In his role as the Installation Commander, he developed and controlled budgets for operations of over $1.25 billion in facilities and assets, with significant participation and planning with economic, government and business negotiations, and oversaw commercial retail operations with over $70 million in sales and services annually.
Previous assignments included responsibilities for worldwide operations staffing, policy development on force protection and security, and testifying before Congress on force readiness and operational matters. Jan holds a MA from Central Michigan University, and a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.
Since leaving the Marine Corps, Jan has built upon his experiences in working at the national and international level with the United States and foreign governments, their agencies and the business community. He has consulted with numerous firms throughout the United States on defense, security, international relations and business opportunities and leadership related issues. He was also a member of the Defense Science Board for the Department of Defense, and continuous to serve on numerous boards of advisors and directors, and the Board of Directors of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.
In October 2017, General Huly was selected to be President & CEO of the Marines’ Memorial Association and Foundation. He assumed that post on 1 November 2017.
