CAPT Tom Spink

The History of Moffett Field traces its history from the early '30s with Lighter Than Air, Army Air Corps Training Base in the late '30s. Navy blimp squadrons of the War years, transports during Korea, jets after Korea, and patrol planes starting in the mid-'60s through the late '90s.  In addition, the 129th California Air National Guard Rescue Wing is stationed there. CAPT Tom Spink

Tom Spink graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Engineering. He received his commission through Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, was selected for the Naval Flight Officer (NFO) program, trained at NAS Pensacola, Florida, and NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, NAS Norfolk, Virginia, NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, and NAS Moffett Field, California.  He flew the P-3B Anti-Submarine Patrol Plane as a Navigator and then Tactical Coordinator (TACCO), throughout the Pacific theater in VP-46.  He was assigned as an instructor at the West Coast P-3 training squadron, VP-31.  He left active duty and affiliated with the Naval Air Reserve in VP-91 at Moffett for 11 years, culminating in a command tour from 1986 to 1988.

CAPT Spink holds a MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California.  He is on the Board of Directors at the Moffett Field Historical Society and Museum and is the Editor of the Sparrowhawk newsletter.  Additionally, he is the C.O. of the San Francisco Bay Area Squadron of the Association of Naval Aviation (ANA) and the Regional VP for the Maritime Patrol Association (MPA) Chapter at Moffett Field.
